(WGTD)---A first aid class for mental health in Kenosha proved to be so popular that its organizers added a second session. Now that cohort is at capacity.
They say the strong response underscores the need for mental health education.
Funded by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, the classes are being organized by the Hope Council.
The day-long sessions are designed to equip the average person with the knowledge and confidence to recognize when someone is struggling, start supportive conversations and connect individuals to the appropriate resources before a crisis escalates.
While the two sessions are full, a waiting list has been established.
There’s still some room for a companion course that focuses on mental health problems experienced by young people.
Later in the year, classes will be held for people who want to become trainers to teach mental health first aid.
