Suicide Spares Suspected Sturtevant Bank Robber of Capture

(WGTD)--With police closing in, a suspected Sturtevant bank robber purportedly shot and killed himself Thursday morning. 

According to a news release from the Sturtevant and Mt. Pleasant police departments, an armed robbery occurred at the Tri-City National Bank on Hwy. 11 in Sturtevant shortly after 11 a.m. 

A Mt. Pleasant police officer spotted the suspect's vehicle about three miles away near Hwy. 20 and Oakes Rd. The pursuit went west on Hwy. 20 for a couple of miles before the vehicle slowed down. 

Turns out the suspect shot himself and died a short time later. 

The man was identified as 42-year-old Kenneth F. White of Aurora, Illinois.
