Thumbs Up For Strawberry Fields; 3rd Racine County COVID-19 Death

Apr. 9, 2020 7:10p

(WGTD/AP)---Racine County has announced another COVID-19 death. This time it’s a woman in her 90s. It’s the county’s third death from the disease. In the WGTD listening area, Kenosha County has recorded one death while Walworth County has none. Bong in Kenosha County and Big Foot in Walworth County are two of 40 state parks, forests and recreation areas that have been closed by the DNR because of overcrowding, litter and vandalism. Gov. Evers warned that more closures may be coming if the public doesn’t follow social distancing guidelines.

(WGTD)---On the night of the incident at least, 45-year-old Jacques Pissard of Racine seemed to have no regrets over repeatedly stabbing his live-in girlfriend, saying he’d been trying to get rid of her for years, and that she grabbed the knife first. That’s according to a criminal complaint that quotes police officers. Pissard was formally charged with attempted murder Thursday. Bond was set at $100,000. The victim remains hospitalized with serious injuries. Both the defendant and the victim purportedly had been drinking.

(WGTD)---Several months ago, members of Kenosha’s Plan Commission called a proposed 900-unit housing development for a site west of I-94 along Highway 50 bland, uninspiring and too crowded. The developers of Strawberry Fields Apartments went back to the drawing board. What they came up with drew rave reviews at a Plan Commission meeting held Thursday. The number of units has been reduced by over one hundred. And there’s a greater variety in building styles. The alderman of the area, Dominic Ruffalo, said neighbors who attending a public meeting recently gave the reworked development high marks. With the positive reactions, the developers are expected to press ahead with the permitting process.
