UPDATE 8-9 10:45p
It'll be Paul Ryan against Ryan Solen.
Solen--an Iraqi war vet and S-C Johnson employee--beat Tom Breu of Janesville to take the Democratic nomination in Tuesday's primary voting in the 1st Congressional District.
On the Republican side, Ryan crushed far-right challenger Paul Nehlen.
With name recognition and $10 million in the bank, Ryan is the heavy favorite in the Nov. 8th general election against Solen.
Speaking to a throng of reporters in Janesville Tuesday night, Ryan said the outcome of his race against Nehlen was exactly what he'd been hoping for. He called Nehlen a "desperate candidate" who did desperate things for attention.
Meanwhile, Democrat Solen, a computer security analyst at S-C Johnson, answered his own phone at his home in Mt. Pleasant. He said he was looking forward to the campaign and thinks Ryan is vulnerable on key issues, such as health care and education.
In other races Tuesday, Russ Feingold easily beat Kenosha private detective and polygraph examiner Scott Harbach to win the Democratic nomination for U-S Senate. The victory officially sets up a rematch between Feingold and incumbent Republican Ron Johnson. It'll be a closely-watched race as Democrats work to try to regain control of the Senate.
Chuck Wichgers, a former Muskego alderman, came out on top In a four-way Republican primary for a State Assembly seat that includes the Village and Town of Waterford. Wichgers is assured victory in the November election as no Democrat is on the ballot in the heavily Republican district. The seat is currently held by David Craig, who's running unopposed for State Senate.
Former Kenosha County District Attorney Bob Jambois lost his bid to unseat his boss, Ismael Ozanne, in the Democratic primary for Dane County District Attorney.
