In Transition: UW-P Chancellor Ford; GTC Provost Thibodeau

Apr. 28, 2023 12:30p

Two local education leaders who are moving on spoke recently on WGTD.

Appearing on Education Matters, UW-Parkside Chancellor Debbie Ford said she hopes to replicate her success at Parkside in her new position as chancellor of a four-year-school in southern Indiana.

Ford concluded the program by emphasizing the importance of life-long learning, no matter in what form it may take.

Gateway Technical College Provost John Thibodeau is retiring after some 34 years at the school. He began his career teaching communications on the Elkhorn campus. He held a series of positions at Gateway before becoming Provost.

Speaking with Greg Berg on The Morning Show, Thibodeau reacted to a recent national news story on community colleges. He noted that the traditional ways of measuring a school’s success by looking at graduation and retention rates don’t always apply these days. For a variety of reasons, Gateway students are more apt to take "chunks" of credits to fit their needs at any given time. He used the analogy of a freeway with its many on and off ramps.

We wish both Ford and Thibodeau well in their new endeavors, and appreciate the support both have given to WGTD over the years.
