(WGTD)---The Racine County Sheriff’s Department has lost another patrol dog.
A week ago Sunday, Deputy Kurt Clemens noted that his canine partner Nox had become lethargic and wasn’t even interested in his favorite food.
The problem was diagnosed as kidney failure.
With no other options, Nox was humanely put to sleep, according to a news release from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.
The pure-bread German Shepherd was ten-and-a-half.
Over the course of their partnership, Deputy Clemens and Nox had over 25-hundred training hours together and nearly one-thousand deployments.
Just last March, another dog, this one named Murphy, died unexpectedly.
The two deaths, plus two recent retirements, leave the department with four active, multi-purpose K-9’s on patrol, and one K-9 trained in locating electronics.
The department’s canine program is funded entirely through private donations. If a group or business would like to fully fund a new dog, they may assist the sheriff in naming it.
