UW-P Teams Banned From Post-Season Play; PP Pork Sausage Recall

Disappointing news for student athletes at UW-Parkside. All of the school's teams have been banned from post-season play for a year by the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The penalty stems from "process and procedure mistakes involving amateurism certification, academic certification and seasons of competition," according to Chancellor Debbie Ford, who added that she believes the infractions didn't warrant the level of discipline that was handed out. "None of the...violations involved academic fraud or criminal activity," she said.

A Pleasant Prairie producer of pork sausage patties has been hit with a recall. According to the USDA, over eleven-hundred pounds of patties that were produced by Fair Oaks Farms earlier this month with a sell-by date of May 15th, 2018 may have been contaminated with the Listeria bacteria. Routine testing discovered the problem, and the product was set aside. But the sausage was inadvertently shipped to stores, necessitating the need for the recall. The agency says there have been no confirmed cases of illness due to the sausage. Listeria can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and intestinal symptoms.
