Jonathan Shailor has been a Parkside professor for 28 years, teaching 22 different courses. He’s best known for his commitment to community-based learning, meeting students beyond Parkside’s classrooms who are in prison or homeless.
He founded the Shakespeare prison Project between Parkside and the Racine Correctional Institution. He founded and directs the Certificate Program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution.
He also is a co-host of WGTD’s Education Matters program.
The teaching excellence awards—made by the Board of Regents—is in its 31st year. The other recipients of this year's awards include a music professor at UW-Superior and an entire program: The First Nations Education Doctorate program at UW-Green Bay.
