Village Green Plan Approved by Pleasant Prairie Board

(WGTD)---A revised plan for the development of a village green in Pleasant Prairie was approved unanimously by the village board Monday night.

Creating a downtown-of-sorts from scratch is a project that’s been on and off the drawing board for over 25 years.

The plan, as approved, envisions a mixed-use development of single family homes, apartments, storefronts, green spaces and other amenities. The 180-acre tract of land—near the village hall—could eventually become home to as many as 3,500 people.

At the meeting, village planner Jean Werbie-Harris advised that the development will be built in phases, and that nothing will happen overnight. "It is a complicated process. It certainly isn't a fast process," she said. "But it's intended to be very deliberate with respect to the pace at which that process takes place and which growth would occur in the downtown."

The initial phase of engaging with prospective developers, exploring financing options for any public structures and studying the traffic impact could take between a year-and-a-half to three years.

Werbie-Harris says she’s already had preliminary discussions with several developers that are interested in working with the village.
