(WGTD)---“Visit Kenosha”—formerly known as the Kenosha Area Convention and Visitors Bureau—is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Funded in part by the area’s hotel/motel room tax, the agency plays a major role in promoting events, and in some cases the group provides a bit of operational support.
Visit Kenosha doesn't charge for its services. "The unique part about Visit Kenosha is when we partner with an event, whether it be the parade, the Wisconsin Marathon or Taste of Wisconsin, we don't get any of the funding from the event," said Dennis DuChene President of Visit Kenosha, on a recent edition of Civic Affairs. "We operate to basically maximize the profitability for the organization running the event," he said.
Based on 2024 numbers, tourism in Kenosha County generates $456 million in revenue annually, according to an estimate provided by the state.
Visit Kenosha has seven full-time and four part-time employees
Tasks include staffing the state's welcome center off of I-94 and 165 and publishing an annual visitor's guide.
