Weighing Wisconsin's Foxconn Chances

So what are the chances of Wisconsin landing Foxconn?

"It seems as if we have a very strong possibility," said Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca on WRJN Tuesday morning. "I think Wisconsin is very competitive based on conversations that we've had," Barca added.

Barca confirmed that Foxconn--the world's largest contract manufacturer of electronics--is looking for an incentive package from the state. But the Taiwanese company also wants other things, such as partnerships to support its technology and workforce.

The Kenosha Democrat indicated that he's particularly impressed with the strong relationships that Gateway Technical College and UW-Parkside have made over the years with industry partners. "We've got just a tremendous infrastructure from an academic engineering and support-style arrangement that I think they will find attractive," he said.

It's believed that a leading site for a potential Foxconn plant in Wisconsin is in the Mt. Pleasant/Sturtevant area. Closed-door meetings have been going on at both the state and local levels. Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou reportedly visited the state last week.

Wisconsin is said to be in competition with a half-dozen other states.
