Just one of two candidates running for Mayor of Racine in Tuesday's special election were able to appear on Friday's Morning Show that was initially touted as a forum for both candidates.
Longtime local legislator Cory Mason is running against longtime Ald. Sandy Weidner to replace John Dickert, who resigned this summer to lead the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.
Their campaigns said only Mason would have the time for a Morning Show appearance. Weidner's campaign manager ultimately said Weidner--who works fulltime at UW-Milwaukee--couldn't take time out to appear either in studio or over the phone for either a live or recorded interview. Morning Show host Greg Berg first reached out to both campaigns in an email that was sent Sept. 28th.
A 20-minute interview with Mason aired by itself Friday morning.
In it, Mason said his top priority for the city, if elected, would be to do what he can to lift up the middle class and make sure workers are prepared to take advantage of the area's growing economy.
In a forum held at a neighborhood community center Thursday night, Weidner identified her top priority as working to improve the city's older neighborhoods.
