The award winning WGTD Radio Theater returns April 9th with a play based on the heart warming letters of Racine resident and WGTD personality Barb Tylla.
Tylla was looking through her mother’s old cedar chest and happened upon a packet of old letters. In these letters, Tylla found her family’s story of strong women, loving men, and life in the 1930s and early 1940s. She took the letters and wrote a play where despite the challenges of the Great Depression and the early days of World War II, love conquered all.
The WGTD Radio Theater brought this radio adaptation of Tylla’s play to the airwaves in 2013 and again in 2014. It will be performed live on April 9, 2022 at 11:15 a.m. at the Racine campus of Gateway Technical College, in the Student Commons area.
Said Tylla, “I’ve been writing all of my life — or for most of it — ever since I figured out how to put words on a page and keep them in the margins,” she said. “Since 1977, my short stories and essays have appeared in more than 22 publications in the United States and Canada. I’ve won two Catholic Press Awards for short fiction, but I turned my attention to the stage in 2005."
"The Cedar Chest Letters" airs April 9th at 11:15am on WGTD FM and via smart speakers. Simply ask Alexa or Google Home to "Play WGTD HD-1 on Tune IN." The program will also be archived.
