Clarity Sought in an Upcoming Meeting With Foxconn Exec

Milwaukee---A pair of top state officials plan to meet on Monday with Foxconn executive Louis Woo to figure out exactly what the Taiwanese company has in store for its complex in Mt. Pleasant.

The disclosure came Thursday in Milwaukee at a forum on Foxconn that was sponsored by the Milwaukee Business Journal.

While telling the audience that they speak on a weekly basis to Foxconn staff, both Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. head Mark Hogan and Gov. Evers' new Administration Secretary Joel Brennan said Foxconn's plans need to be clarified and put on a timeline.

In January, a Reuters story quoted Woo as saying that the company may not manufacture small LCD screens in Mt. Pleasant afterall. This, after the company initially said it planned to produce larger ones.  

Two days later, Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou was reportedly promising President Trump in a phone call that the company would in fact manufacture screens in Mt. Pleasant. The company also said it would build assembly and packaging facilities and a research and development center. 

Monday's face-to-face meeting will be held in Wisconsin, but an exact location hasn't been disclosed. 

Also Thursday....word that a former Obama administration staffer will serve as Gov. Ever's new point person on Foxconn. Sam Rikkers currently heads up a non-profit in Madison. He filled several roles for in the Obama administration.
