(WGTD)---Kenosha School Board President Yolanda Adams canceled Tuesday night's regularly-scheduled meeting of the board after audience members refused to socially distance themselves.

On the agenda was board review of the district's COVID policies for the upcoming school year which called for students 12 and younger to wear masks as a protection against the surging Delta variant. Masks for students in grades 7-12 would be optional.

Before the meeting began, chairs in the board room were separated by three feet, which infuriated some audience members, who then started lining the walls. Space was made available in an overflow room to watch the meeting, but no one appeared to leave.

Adams then announced that the meeting wouldn't begin until the audience complied with her distancing order. It never did.

Audience members sang 'God Bless America," recited the pledge of allegiance and launched a round of speeches.

After about 10 minutes, board members got up and walked out amid cat calls and chants of 'recall.' Uniformed police officers were on hand.

Board secretary Stacey Stephens said afterward no attempt would be made Tuesday evening to convene at another location. Instead, the meeting is expected to be rescheduled, and possibly held via Zoom.
