(WGTD)---A 24-year-old Kenosha man allegedly killed his father and his step-mother after they interrupted his alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old family member.
In court Thursday, bond for 24-year-old Jesus Medrano was set at $2.5 million by Court Commissioner Larry Keating. "The court's aware that these are allegations. But nonetheless let's be candid--these allegations are nothing short of grisly," Keating said.
According to Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley, Medrano, armed with a machete, entered the bedroom of the victim who was sleeping in a lower bunk and got on top of her. When she started screaming and struggling, Medrano purportedly started to strangle her. The commotion woke a 10-year-old girl who'd been sleeping in the upper bunk, and that's when Medrano's 49-year-old father and 36-year-old step-mother came running.
Medrano allegedly used the machete to stab his father twice and his mother once.
Three of the four children who'd been in the house fled to the home of a neighbor who then called police.
The six-year-old daughter of the defendant who'd also been living in the home remained and witnessed much of what happened, Gravely said.
With machete still in hand, Medrano was arrested as he tried to flee to a nearby relative's home. Medrano urged police to shoot him, Graveley said, but they declined.
The father and step-mother both bled to death in their home.
"I'm not sure that I have been in a more heartbreaking scene than this particular residence or been a party to more heartbreaking reports from the surviving children, at least one of whom is literally orphaned," Graveley said.
Medrano is due back in court Friday for the filing of the criminal complaint.
