(WGTD)---A Kenosha legislator who lost a party leadership post in part because of his support for the state’s Foxconn incentive package has been chosen as the city’s Labor Person of the Year.
Democrat Peter Barca will be honored at Kenosha’s Labor Fest on Monday.
In a news release, Rick Gallo, president of the Kenosha AFL-CIO Council, said the committee’s vote to honor Barca was unanimous.
Barca was first elected to the Assembly in 1985. He was elected to Congress in a special election in 1993 after Les Aspin was named Secretary of Defense. He returned to the legislature in 2008, and rose to national prominence as a leader in the struggle against Gov. Walker’s changes to collective bargaining for public employees.
Barca stepped down as minority leader last fall in the wake of the Foxconn vote in which most members of his party voted against the deal.
Monday’s Labor Fest on the St. Therese Festival grounds will be held from eleven until five.
