Bradford Stabber to be Tried as an Adult

The former Bradford High School student who stabbed another to death last year will be tried as an adult.

Kenosha Judge Mary Wagner refused Monday to transfer Tim Carson to juvenile court, saying to do so would depreciate the seriousness of the offense.

Carson was charged with 2nd Degree Intentional Homicide. The maximum penalty is 60 years.

According to the criminal complaint, Carson stabbed Dezjon Taylor in the heart after Taylor, in the accompaniment of two other boys, punched Carson in the face. The incident occurred inside the school just before a study hall was to have begun.

Carson's attorney, in arguing unsuccessfully for juvenile court, said Carson believed he used just as much force as was necessary to protect himself from further harm.

Prosecutor Mike Graveley holds the position that Carson had several other viable options.

But Graveley said in court Monday that it seemed Carson is part of a culture where acts of violence and intimidation are viewed as the primary ways to settle disputes. "If you live that code of conduct," Graveley said, "you'll be on the receiving end of that some times and on the delivery end of that some times."

Arraingment was scheduled for May 2nd. Carson remains in custody.
