Congressional Cash; Barden's Bidders?; Foxconn Events

1st Congressional District Democrat Randy Bryce says he raised $2.1 million over the first three months of this year as he campaigns to win his party's nomination and ultimately take on Republican Paul Ryan. The union iron worker reported Monday that he has nearly $2.3 million cash on hand. Bryce is running against Janesville teacher Cathy Myers in the Aug. 14th primary. According to a report in the Journal Sentinel, Myers has raised more than $750,000 to date. Fresh fundraising totals for Ryan weren't immediately available as the quarter came to a close.

Two big Foxconn-related events are scheduled for Tuesday. The first one is to take place at Fountain Hall in Racine at 1 p.m. Representatives of several-hundred construction-related companies are expected to gather to learn more about becoming a vendor, subcontractor, supplier or professional service provider during the construction phase of the Foxconn project. The recently-named general contractor is expected to lead the session. Then at 6 p.m. at the SC Johnson iMET Center in Sturtevant, the state D-N-R is to conduct a combination information session/public hearing on four air pollution control permits that Foxconn has requested. State documents show emissions from Foxconn would rank among the highest in southeastern Wisconsin for toxins that create smog. The event is expected to be streamed live on WGTD's Facebook page.

The City of Kenosha is going fishing to see if there's any interest in buying and redeveloping a vacant downtown department store building. The two-story Barden's building at the corner of 58th St. and 7th Ave. has been mostly empty over the past several decades. The city bought the building a couple of years ago to keep it out of the hands of speculators. In soliciting redevelopment proposals, the city is requiring that the first floor remain commercial, while giving developers the choice of either commercial or residential on the second floor. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 29th.
