Deaths, New Cases, Rise in Wisconsin and Locally; New Test Sites Announced

May 29, 2020 3:20p: Updated at 4:15 with local numbers

(WGTD)---Wisconsin is having a hard time getting the COVID-19 numbers to move in the right direction on a consistent basis.

The state health department reported Friday an additional 18 deaths and 733 new cases. The number of new positive cases as a percent of the total number of tests performed also rose.

Locally, two additional deaths apiece were reported in Racine and Kenosha counties. Walworth County reported the passing of another patient.

The totals stand at 27 in Kenosha County, 36 in Racine County and 17 in Walworth County.

There are some encouraging spots. For instance, the number of new positive cases as a percentage of total tests performed in Racine County dropped steadily from 18.5% on May 20th to 13.7% Thursday. Friday's percentage in Racine County was identical to Thursday's.

The mixed numbers come as various entities--seemingly cautiously in most cases--slowly reopen.

New community testing sites were announced Friday in both Kenosha and Racine counties.

National Guard sites will open next week at Central High School in Paddock Lake and at Case High School in Mt. Pleasant.

The Case High School site will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 until 6.

The site at Central High School will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and from 10-6 on Friday and Saturday.

In addition, there's one day left at the Festival Hall site in Racine. Tests will be offered there on Saturday from 11-5.

Test results are expected within 7 days. Kenosha County Health Dept. Dir. Jen Freiheit said this week that delays at the labs have cropped up because of the increased amount of testing that's being done.

Tests at all sites are free and neither symptoms or appointments are required as prerequisites.
