An I-94 construction zone median barrier in Racine County was again pushed into oncoming traffic as the result of an accident. This time, a dump truck in the process of changing lanes clipped a car, causing it to spin out across three lanes of traffic and into the median. The barrier was pushed into an oncoming lane, but no one hit it. There were no injuries. Earlier this summer, a similar accident led to the deaths of two truckers.

Interstate speeds in the construction zone have been a big issue. This past weekend the Racine County Sheriff’s Dept. stationed extra patrols on the ‘eye.’ Two speeders were stopped for doing over 100 mph. Two others were clocked between 95 and 99. And 77 tickets were handed out to motorists who were travelling between 80 and 89 mph. All in a work zone with a 60 mph limit. In a statement, Sheriff Christopher Schmaling noted that the deputies’ work was extremely challenging because of the limited number of places that vehicles could be pulled over.

Another pre-trial hearing—this one to deal with various motions—is scheduled for Tuesday in the case of a Bradford High School student who fatally stabbed another over two years ago. 17-year-old Timothy Carson is facing a charge of 2nd degree intentional homicide. He’s claiming self-defense. Although the trial is scheduled for next week, it could be delayed again. According to online court records, the defense attorney may appeal a pre-trial ruling.

One of the bumpiest major arterials in Kenosha is scheduled to receive some attention next year. A six-block-stretch of State Highway 32, otherwise known as Sheridan Rd., from 85th to 91st streets, is expected to be resurfaced. Then five years later, Sheridan from 91st south to the state line is scheduled to be redone. The state DOT will hold a public informational meeting on that project next Tuesday from four to six at Pleasant Prairie Village Hall.
