(WGTD)---There's a chance that electric cars could be assembled at Foxconn's Mt. Pleasant complex as a result of a deal announced Wednesday.

Foxconn and Los Angeles-based Fisker, Inc. are planning to design a new electric car that would be assembled by Foxconn.

Fisker Chief Executive Henrik Fisker is quoted in the Wall Street Journal as saying there's a "good chance" that the vehicle would be built somewhere in the U.S., and that Foxconn's Mt. Pleasant facility is an "obvious" option.  He said no final decision has been made.

The companies envision building 250,000 cars a year beginning in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Electric vehicle development is nothing new to Foxconn, which has been laying the groundwork for its entry into the business via several avenues.

In addition, the company is nearing completion on a 1 million sq. ft. manufacturing building in Mt. Pleasant. Foxconn hasn't specifically said what they plan to use the building for.

Fisker's first electric vehicle, an SUV called the "Ocean", is scheduled to begin production at the end of next year.
