(WGTD)---A new tool created by one of WGTD’s parent networks, NPR, shows that nearly every hospital in the listening area is battling hospitalizations due to the Delta surge just not at the levels of other parts of the country. 55 percent of the hospitals in the U.S. are categorized in the “high” or "extremely stressed” categories. Two hospitals in the listening area meet that threshold.

In Kenosha County, COVID patients make up 8 percent of inpatient beds at Aurora and 7 percent at Frederort South. Both hospitals are in the “moderate” category. ICU data was not available. The county on average is seeing about 11 new COVID hospitalizations per day.

In Racine County, Ascension All Saints has 9 percent and Aurora Burlington reports 10 percent of inpatient beds are being utilized by COVID patients, putting the Burlington location in the “high” category. ICU data was not reported. On average, 25 Racine County residents are being hospitalized per day.

In Walworth County, in the "high" category with some 15 percent of inpatient beds and 44 percent of ICU beds taken by those with COVID is Aurora Lakeland. The hospital has the highest percentage in the listening area. Mercy Hospital did not report. About 9 residents per day are being hospitalized on average.
