Jittery Kenosha On Alert Once Again

Sept. 14, 2020 8:10p; Updated at 8:55p; 9:45p with word of arrest and release; Recast at 11:15 for AM news

(WGTD)---A caravan of vehicles coming into Kenosha early Monday evening triggered a series of events that led to an arrest, a call for reinforcements to outside police agencies and a protest on the steps of the Kenosha County Courthouse.

Police said late Monday night there were no reports of violence or property damage.

The arrest came after a vehicle was stopped by the State Patrol.

Arrested and given a court date was a Milwaukee woman, 28-year-old Kamila Ahmed. She was cited for having improperly attached license plates, operating without insurance and a valid driver's license and possessing open intoxicants. In addition, Ahmed, according to online jail records, posted bond for misdemeanor counts of marijuana possession, obstructing and carrying a concealed weapon. She was released from custody just after 9 p.m.

A short while after the arrest, several dozen protesters gathered at the courthouse as police officers watched.

In anticipation of possible trouble, the courthouse area had already been encircled with squad cars with their red lights flashing.

Several law enforcement agencies from outside of the city responded.

The several dozen protesters who had gathered left the area after the woman was released from jail.

It was three weeks ago that protests against the Jacob Blake shooting led to arsons, property damage and violence.

A tall fence that protected several blocks around the courthouse and Public Safety Building was taken down just last Thursday.
