(WGTD)---Kenosha uptown rebuilding news… The results of a feasibility study on whether a grocery store could be built and supported in the uptown neighborhood should be completed by the end of the month.
The Kenosha Area Business Alliance is conducting the study, with the help of an outside consultant.
There have been many calls for a central city grocery store, especially in the wake of the destruction of a large part of the uptown business district in riots in late August and in an accidental fire earlier in the summer. The area lost a Pick ‘n’ Save three years ago when the parent company pulled out of the neighborhood.
On a related note, Kenosha County Executive Jim Krueser said earlier this week that the uptown district should be considered as a site for a new Kenosha County Job Center.
The center is currently located on the south side of Kenosha and is in need of either expansion or replacement.
Kreuser said moving the center to the uptown area would spark further development in the neighborhood, and bring social services closer to the people who really need them.
Over the weekend, Kenosha City Administrator John Morrissey talked about uptown rebuilding on WGTD’s Community Matters. Morrissey said business owners who were burned out of their shops should be offered first shot at any spaces that are rebuilt.
