Kenosha Tradition to Continue Under New Owners

July 7, 2019 6:50p

(WGTD)---A Kenosha icon has a new owner.

The Spot changed hands this past spring after Chuck DuBois retired. His father—Harold—started the drive-in restaurant in 1945. It’s been at the corner of 75th St. and 22nd Ave. ever since.

The new owner is Kenosha businessman Peter Lee who says no major changes will be made to the menu, staff and operation. "There's no reason to fix something that's not broken," Lee says. "It's our opportunity to keep the tradition going," he said.

The 36-year-old Lee has restaurant experience. He started washing dishes at Bob’s on Sheridan as a 12-year-old, and has worked at the Boathouse and Red Robin. In addition to owning The Spot, Lee owns a company in Oklahoma that caters to the oil industry. Before selling it a few years ago, Peter’s father for many years owned a Racine business called Metal, Inc.

Peter Lee says a cousin with retail experience and other family members will join him at The Spot.

And as for that long-running debate over which Kenosha drive-in with car-hop service has the best food—The Spot or Big Star—there’s no doubt where Lee stands on the issue. "I'm never going to talk bad about any of my competitors," Lee says. "But if I'm looking for the best burger in town I'm going to The Spot.'

Lee says there will be some minor changes involving technology. For one thing, an app may soon be available for ordering.
