(WGTD)---The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man responsible for killing a Racine police officer who tried to stop an armed robbery at a tavern has been increased to $37,000. "We're hoping all the reward money will help somebody say 'He's going to be caught anyway (so) I might as well be getting that $37,000," Beth said at a Thursday news conference that also included Racine Police Chief Art Howell. Beth's agency is leading the investigation. The higher reward amount came about as Andis Co. increased its offer from $5,000 to $15,000. Neither Beth or Howell offered anything new in the search for the killer of John Hetland. Beth said authorities have received hundreds of tips.

(WGTD)---Five-year-old Dakari Weldon died when one of the adults who'd been watching him tried to take away a gun that he'd been playing with. According to a criminal complaint, 24-year-old Javon Cannon said that he reached around to grab the gun and that's when it went off. Cannon was formally charged Thursday with homicide by the negligent handling of a dangerous weapon. Although Cannon said he had no idea that the gun was loaded. Dakari's nine--year-old brother told investigators that he saw Cannon load the gun minutes earlier. Cannon's brother, Jovonn Cannon, is facing a misdemeanor charge of leaving or storing a loaded firearm near a child. Jovonn Cannon, who owned the gun, said he normally kept it under his bed with a lock on it. But the brothers had been in the process of re-organizing a room and that's when the gun came out. Jovonn also said that he normally kept a round in the chamber but couldn't be sure that the gun was loaded when the five-year-old picked it up.
