Luck, Hustle, Factored Into Cell Phone Store Burglary Bust

A helping hand from a citizen, hustle and luck played a role in nabbing three people who allegedly broke into a Kenosha cell phone store early Monday morning and stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

"There was definitely a bit of luck in this one," said Kenosha Police Dept. Lt. Tim Schaal Tuesday. "Sometimes its better to be lucky than good."

The first bit of fortuitous police work came when an officer on patrol heard an alarm coming from McTernan Wireless at 2601 75th Street at about 2:30 a.m.  The place had been entered.

A neighbor stepped out of his house to report seeing a silver-colored car leaving the scene, according to Schaal. A quick check of the security cameras revealed that three burglars were involved.

Just minutes later, an alarm came in from the AT&T store on Green Bay Road. The thieves had been unable to gain entry and fled.

Simultaneously, the description of the vehicle with the three suspects were radioed out to other squads and other law enforcement agencies.

Just as they were about to enter an on-ramp of I-94 at Highway 50, Pleasant Prairie squads cut 'um off and made the arrests. Stolen merchandise was recovered.

The McTernan burglary--that store's second in recent months--was the latest in a string of recent cell phone store break-ins in the region. Investigators are hoping to tie the McTernan suspects to some of the other thefts.
