(WGTD)---Newly-crowned Miss America Grace Stanke of Wausau will be at UW-Parkside this week, hoping to inspire some 450 Racine Unified middle school students.
The occasion is the 10th annual ‘Girls Empowered by Math & Science Conference’. It’s being put on by Girls Inc. of Southeast Wisconsin, a non-profit that strives to help girls navigate their way to academic and personal success.
A large part of Stanke’s story is that she’s a nuclear engineering senior at UW-Madison, and has to be the first contestant to describe herself as a “nuclear nerd.”
Stanke appeared just last week on the Ideas Network of Wisconsin Public Radio.
At the Parkside conference, Stanke will be giving the keynote address, then participating in some break-out sessions.
Girls Inc. of Southeast Wisconsin is sponsored by Parkside, Gateway, the United Way and a host of other organizations.
