New Photos in Bar Shooting; Investigators Put Out a New Plea for Help

June 23, 2019 8:55p

(WGTD)---Investigators working the Teezers bar shooting in Racine have put out a more specific request for help from the public. They're asking residents or businesses located within a half-mile radius of Teezers on Lathrop Ave. to check their doorbell or security cameras for saved footage of events having occurred the evening of June 17th through the early-morning hours that could be viewed as suspicious.

Off-duty Racine police officer John Hetland was shot and killed that night as he tried to intervene in an attempted robbery. The suspect was last seen running in a southwesterly direction from the bar. The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m.

The Kenosha County Sheriff's Dept.--which is leading the investigation--on Sunday put out several slightly different photos of the suspect who was caught by a bar security camera. While much of the  suspect's face is covered, the photos show a black man with what appears to be heavy bags under his eyes. Police previously said they're looking for a man in his 20s weighing about 150 lbs. and who is 5'8".

The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction stands at over $70,000.

Investigators have put out a series of questions for the public to ponder that are meant to dislodge what could be critical pieces of information. Do they know anyone who was out and about in the area of the crime during the night in question...is there a friend or family member that is suddenly unaccounted for...have they heard any reliable rumors...are they aware of any suspicious activity by people they may suspect.

A funeral service for Hetland will be held at Carthage College Wednesday morning at 11. It'll be preceded by public visitations that'll take place the day before from 3-7, and the day of from 9 until 10:30.
