Pandemic-Inspired Teaching Approach Will Stick in at Least One Classroom

(WGTD)---Some teaching strategies that Kenosha Unified were forced to implement because of the pandemic aren’t going away.

Among them is a new approach that LakeView Technology Academy computer science and physics teacher Timothy Overrocker uses to connect with his students.

The idea came from a virtual-learning student. “One of the kids said Mr. ‘O’ wouldn’t it be really neat if a teacher would do just a video game stream. And I said we can do that. That’s not too hard,” Overrocker relayed during an appearance on the WGTD program Generation Now.”

The technologicaly-savvy Overrocker explained that he modified his classroom to include a green screen, a document stand and multiple cameras and monitors, all run by video production software.

The teaching style was such a hit with both in-person and remote-learning students that Overrocker plans to stick with his new-age classroom when school resumes this fall, even if all teaching is back to in-person. “The kids seemed to be more engaged,” he said.
