Kenosha Plan Commission Kills Plans For a 10-Room Boarding House

Updated 8-24

Kenosha---Plans for a ten-room boarding house to help relieve Kenosha’s homeless problem were blocked by the City Plan Commission Thursday evening.

Commissioners unanimously concurred with a recommendation from  staff to stick with the city’s parking rules and deny an exception.

Under a city ordinance, five off-street spaces would be required for a rooming house the size of which is being proposed.

The house at 6027 18th Ave. has a two-car garage and a long driveway, but under the rules the driveway doesn’t count. In recommending against granting an exception, city staff said parking in the area already was a bit of a problem.

The developer, Josie McAlister, says she’ll be back with a revised plan.
