(WGTD)---A consultant hired by the City of Kenosha has narrowed the focus of a proposed innovation center for the former Engine Plant site.

After two years of study, Waymaker Group has concluded that the health care/biomed field offers the most promising future. Runners up were advanced manufacturing and logistics and distribution.

Addressing a recent meeting of the Kenosha City Council, Waymaker C-E-O Julie Huls said the goal is to develop a “moon shot level” research, development and technology institution. "We're using the term 'moonshot' here because by design we are shooting for the moon in developing a new way to position Kenosha for 21st century success," she said.

Waymaker Group is continuing to work on behalf of the city. The focus this year will be on identifying partners and grant opportunities, developing a conceptual site plan and considering the qualities that a center C-E-O should have. Some possible partners have already stepped forward, she said.
