In downtown Kenosha Wednesday, it wasn't easy finding people who were willing to sing Paul Ryan's praises outright.
Many of the two or three dozen people who were approached--like Margaret Cochran--were happy to see him go. "I'm ecstatic," she said. "He's leaving a sinking ship like all the rats that are retiring."
Retiree Kathy Martinelli offered a similar sentiment: "Years ago I would've voted for him, but I'm not happy with him. He's getting out while he's on top."
Maryanne Mancusi wondered about Ryan's motives: "I think he wants to spend time with his family--there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe he's going to run for president--who knows?"
Later in the day, Ryan told an interviewer that he has no desire to run for office ever again.
Of those asked to comment by WGTD's Troy McDonald, only one person pledged support for Ryan, but she declined to be recorded.
Two college students said they never heard of him.
