Top Foxconn Contractors Announced

The general contractor for Foxconn’s $10 billion manufacturing complex in Mt. Pleasant was unveiled Tuesday.

Gilbane Building Company is a family-owned, east coast-based company with a strong presence in Milwaukee. They’re teaming up with M + W Group, a company that specializes in building advanced technology facilities.

Identification of the top contractors means that the hiring process moves that much closer, according to Mark Waltz of one of what's considered to be one of the project’s top recruitment and training firms, the Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership. "One of the first steps that we're going to do now that Gilbane has officially been announced is work with them on a needs assessment to find out how many people in each trade are needed," Waltz said. According to overall Foxconn estimates, some 10,000 workers will be needed over a four-year period to build the place.

Gilbane, the company chosen to serve as Foxconn’s lead contractor, was general contractor for the recently-constructed Northwestern Mutual tower in downtown Milwaukee.

Helping Gilbane on the Foxconn project will be the Jacobs Engineering Group and the Sigma Group. Sigma, which is already working with the Village of Mt. Pleasant, will provide planning services and environmental consulting. Jacobs will lead engineering and architecture services.

Local officials praised the selections. "We are excited to work with Gilbane and M+W Group to make this once-in-a-generation project a reality," said Village President Dave DeGroot. "We believe they are the right team for the project, a know they will design and construct a remarkable facility that will positively impact our community for generations to come."
