A Trio of New Industries Slated for Kenosha

Kenosha---Three new industries are anticipated for an abandoned rail yard that played a role in the city's automotive manufacturing era.

The 122-acre site is located on the city's far west side between 60th and 75th streets, and between two sets of rail lines. Vehicles that were made in Kenosha were trucked to the site, then loaded onto rail cars.

The City Plan Commission on Thursday is expected to create a new tax incremental financing district to facilitate development at the site that'll include three small industries, one of which is expected to be serviced by one of the railroads, according to city development department specialist Zohrab Khaligian.

The TID will also be used to finance the cost of converting the stretch of 60th in front of the site into a four-lane highway, connecting it with the existing four-lane that runs east to Green Bay Road, he said.

The Elmhusrt, Illinois-based developer, Cendrillon, has been working for years to develop the tract, but plans came together only recently, according to Khaligian.

The industries weren't identified, nor were the number of employees that the businesses represent.
