Vaccine Appointment Avails in Kenosha; State Sees Rises in COVID Cases

Mar. 25, 2021 9:00p; Correction made at 9:25p for days open

(WGTD/AP)---The Kenosha County Public Health Department's vaccination clinic in the former Shopko building on 52nd St. will be open two days next week.

Appointment requests for the Tuesday and Wednesday slots are being taken by the county's call center only. Online registration is not an option for now. The move, according to Health Officer Jen Freiheit, is a tactic designed to "ensure that we are reaching the most possible, eligible Kenosha County residents."

The number is 262-605-6799.

Only those eligible for the vaccine will receive appointments. The latest group to become eligible includes those 16 or older with certain medical conditions.

The call center is temporarily expanding its hours of operation to include some weekend times. Calls will be taken Saturday and Sunday mornings from eight until noon.

According to numbers from the state, just over a-quarter of Kenosha County's population has received at least one shot. The state average is 27.3%.

Meanwhile, state health officials are raising concerns about a new spike in positive cases, including variants.

Officials on Thursday renewed cautions about traveling during spring break season and dropping other safeguards that slow the spread of COVID-19.

Over the past seven days, the average number of new cases in Wisconsin was 459. One week ago, the seven-day-average was 409.

There are now 69 detected cases of the more contagious B117 variant first identified in England, up from 55 last week.
