The WGTD Radio Theater and a digital production of WGTD were recently recognized at state and national levels.
The 91.1 Players, now in their 16th season of live productions broadcast over WGTD, received four silver medals and one bronze medal at the Audio Fiction and Arts Festival held in Kansas City, MO. The four-day event is the audio equivalent of a film festival for contemporary audio story-telling in all of its forms.
One silver medal was awarded for the Radio Theater’s entire 15th season. Four individual performances were recognized with silver status, including Hercule Poirot: Murder on the Indian Mounds of Delavan, Wisconsin, Orson Welles as ‘The Kane Shadow’ in Send in the Clowns and The New ‘Dean Martin’ Holiday Show Extravaganza.
The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: The Murder of Professor Jeremy Clarkson earned bronze status.
The WGTD Radio Theater was also honored this spring by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association for submissions in the Original Feature and Use of Audio (Non-News) categories.
An award for Best Original Digital Content came for a sample video webcast of a WGTD Sports high school football production, a Tremper/Franklin game that was played Oct. 4 of last year.
WGTD offers the only live stream production of high school athletics in Kenosha, Walworth and Racine counties that features multiple 4K cameras and instant replay. The crew for the 2019-2020 season included Abagail Walentowski, Natalie Lother, Andrea Medina and Ryan Hilburger, all either students or graduates of Indian Trail High School’s Communications Academy.
Play by play and color commentary was by Larry Rightler and Bob Haggarty. The productions were produced and directed by Troy McDonald.
The WGTD Radio Theater is produced and written by Steve Brown and Mike Ullstrup. Productions are directed by Viki DuMez and Rene Bushelle.
