Bus Stop: Arrests and Conflicting Accounts

Aug. 28, 2020 12:45a

(WGTD)---A three-vehicle caravan from a Seattle non-profit that feeds protesters was pulled over in Kenosha this week by authorities who alleged that at least some riders had more in mind than just handing out food.

The painted black school bus, a minivan and another vehicle described as a bread truck were followed into Kenosha Wednesday evening.

Police intervened when the caravan stopped at a gas station and the officers saw multiple fuel cans being filled, a red flag to them because of all of the arson fires this week.

During the questioning, the minivan attempted to drive off but was hemmed in by vehicles from the U.S. Marshal’s office. A search of the van yielded additional red flags: Helmets, gas masks, protective vests, illegal fireworks and suspected controlled substances were all recovered.

Kenosha police said that nine people were arrested for disorderly conduct. Final charges, if any, will be up to the district attorney.

The name of the non-profit is Riot Kitchen 206. A board member tells WPR that the arrests were a nightmare because her members were as she put it "snatched" by people in unmarked vehicles and that she didn’t know what had happened to them for hours.

Videos from the scene, however, show that a number of Kenosha police and sheriff’s department squads were involved in the stop.

The caravan was on its way to Washington D-C to support protesters there.
