Candlelight Vigil Held For Jacob Blake in Civic Center Park

Dec. 17, 2020 9:10p

(WGTD)---Family members of Jacob Blake held a candlelight vigil in Civic Center Park Thursday evening as Kenosha continues to wait for a decision on whether the officer who shot Blake in the back will be charged.

About 30 mask-wearing participants attended, and prayed with area clergy for justice, Blake’s recovery and the overall well-being of the community, especially in light of COVID-19.

In his prayer, Grace Lutheran Church pastor Jonathan Barker noted how the community has come together to draw attention to various racial justice and equality issues. "Lord, let the power of this community continue to grow in this upcoming year," Barker said. "Let this community continue to get miraculous moments of justice, and Lord, we ask for justice for this community and for Jacob Blake."

Jacob Blake remains paralyzed. The director of the Blake family-founded group, “Leaders of Kenosha,” said Blake remains too ill to attend the type of event that was held Thursday night.

At last report, Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley was still examining the evidence in the Blake shooting. No timeline has been set for a charging decision against the officer who shot him.
