(WGTD)---At a vigil Sunday evening for a Racine homicide victim, prayers were offered not only for the teen but for the offender as well.
18 year-old Giovanni Aime--found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso-- crashed his car on Racine St., a few blocks from where the shooting actually occurred. Persons of interest in the search for the gunman have been identified.
At Sunday night's vigil on Racine Street, Aime's cousin--Racine Alder Nathan Pabon--referred to a conversation he had with Giovanni's mother. "One of the things she recognizes and understands wasn't just that Giovanni is gone it was that whoever did this they're going to be gone for their family too," Pabon said. "And yes she wants justice and yes she's angry but she also understands there's another family that's going to be grieving in a different way."
Nearly two dozen people attended the Racine Interfaith Coalition vigil.
The Rev. Yeprem Kelegian has led many of them. "Every time something like this happens the word senseless comes up. Can you make any sense of this? Is there any reason why this happened, really. No. I good young man died. That's senseless," he said.
Giovanni--who lived in Kenosha--recently started working at Amazon.
