(WGTD)---A former treasurer of the United States will be visiting Carthage College this week.
Rosario Marin was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2001.
Treasurers may be best known for having their names stamped on our paper currency. Rosario Marin, however, has a colorful past filled with ups and downs that began as a child growing up in a two-room home in Mexico. She emigrated to the U-S as a seven-year-old, and launched a success story that included stints in the administrations of two California governors.
In Monday’s Morning Show with Greg Berg, Marin talked about her treasury appointment, still marveling at how far she'd come. "This is the country where a girl who couldn't speak English stamps her name on its currency. That only happens in the greatest country in the world," she said.
Marin is coming to Carthage to not only talk about her courageous personal story, but she'll also assess the future of U-S and Latin American economic relations.
A Wednesday event at 6 p.m. on campus is open to the public. While admission is free, advance registration is required by going to Carthage’s website.
