Celebrating a 50 Year-Old Community Success Story

Oct. 2, 2026 3:15p

(WGTD)---The Racine Theatre Guild is getting ready to celebrate its 90th anniversary next year. But first they’re noting another important milestone in its history: It’s 50 years ago this month that the community theater performed its first show in its then ‘new’ home on Northwestern Ave.

A free, public celebration is planned for this Sunday at two that’ll feature colorful stories of the building’s development and excerpts from some of the shows and musicals that have been performed there over the years. A highlight is expected to be a scene from Taming of the Shrew, the first play that was produced from the new stage, with a cast member who was part of that 1976 production.

These days, the stage is the home of some 150 performances each year, including main stage shows, children's theater productions, comedy revues and musical concerts.

Speaking on WGTD’s Morning Show this week, Racine Theater Guild marketing and development director Joycelyn Fish said the large number of performances wouldn't be possible without the building’s versatility and spacious features.
