Developer of a Wheatland Battery Farm Moves Forward; Kenosha County Food Bank to End Operations

Oct. 1, 2026 9p; Edited on 10-2 to add a last line on the food bank story.

From WGTD News:

An uphill battle to coordinate, establish and expand an equitable supply chain for the Kenosha area's food pantries is ending. The Kenosha County Food Bank announced Thursday that it's ceasing operations after seven years. The organization had dedicated itself to increasing the amount of donated food and then collecting, storing and distributing it in the most efficient way possible to existing pantries. The food bank announced just last spring that the Racine Kenosha Community Action Agency signed on to perform some operational tasks for it. The Kenosha food bank had a long-running partnership with its counterpart in Racine. It wasn't immediately clear what the impact will be on the individual food pantries.

The New York-based company that wants to build an energy storage facility in the Town of Wheatland is moving forward with its application to the state despite a local moratorium. Robin Energy Storage filed additional paperwork with the state Public Service Commission on Wednesday. It wants to plant over 200 battery containers on a 29-acre site, creating what critics contend is a safety hazard and environmental issues. Last spring the Kenosha County Board unanimously passed a one-year moratorium on the development of such projects. In a statement, Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman indicated her disappointment with the company's decision to attempt an end-around to the county moratorium. The move may trigger a legal battle.
