(WGTD)---The Kenosha City Council voted overwhelmingly Monday night to revoke the liquor license of a popular sports bar that ran afoul of law enforcement.
The 15-1 vote against Coins on 52nd St. came despite manager Jerry Cousin emphasizing the charitable work the place has done over the years. "We believe we're a positive contribution overall to the community even though these kinds of bad events have occurred at our establishment," he said before the vote.
But those incidents—including a New Year’s Day, parking lot gun battle that left one person dead—were the motivating factors that led to the near unanimous vote to close the place.
A council member who represents the area, Shayna Giffin, said her vote was a response to the complaints she’s received from the neighborhood. "Everybody in Kenosha deserves peace and safety above everything else," she said.
The council vote came after nearly an hour of closed-door deliberations, and two nights' worth of testimony before the council's License and Permit Committee.
The attorney for Coins said he most likely will file a lawsuit in an attempt to overturn the decision.
