(WGTD)---An Elkhorn man allegedly used access he received as a car salesman to a financial services web site in order to steal from customers.
34-year-old Michael Myers is facing charges for schemes that involved a handful of customers from an Elkhorn auto dealer.
According to the criminal complaint, Myers applied for state identification cards, then had the cards sent to mailboxes at homes that were under construction.
One customer said nearly $4,000 was withdrawn from his bank account, and he eventually documented that several fraudulent credit card and loan applications were made under his name.
Myers was arrested this week during a search of his Elkhorn apartment and after he barricaded himself in the attic. Authorities said Myers tried to slip out through a neighbor’s apartment by punching a hole through an attic wall, but police were waiting on the other side.
According to the criminal complaint, Myers’ former girlfriend said that that Myers had a gambling problem. He’s being held on a $50,000 bond.
Myers resigned from the dealership before the criminal charges were filed.
