(WGTD)---School districts in Wisconsin have been looking at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association for guidance on whether to maintain or cancel the fall sports schedule because of the pandemic. Now it appears the WIAA might be looking at the districts for advice.
The online service WisSports reports that the WIAA has sent district superintendents a survey asking what their feelings are on the topic, including whether fall sports should be delayed until spring.
In response to the report, a group of football parents has launched a petition drive asking that the football schedule stand as is, and that players at least be given the option of playing.
Beli Ismaili is the father of Indian Trail's starting quarterback. "There are kids with scholarships on the line," he said. "They (the seniors) have been working all their life for their senior season."
Ismaili says he doesn't believe it's practical to move the football season to spring. He thinks it's possible to safely play football in the fall, with frequent testing and other safeguards in place.
According to the WisSports report, the WIAA Board of Control is scheduled to meet this week to discuss the status of fall sports.
