"A Crime of Wickedness": Olivia Mackay's Killer Sentenced to True Life

(WGTD)---The 20 year-old man who strangled a 17 year-old Kenosha girl because he wanted to steal her car was sentenced to life in prison Monday without a chance for parole.

Daniel Tate declined his pre-sentence opportunity to address Judge Bruce Schroeder, who called Tate’s actions a “crime of wickedness.” Tate and the victim, Olivia Mackay, had met online.

During his comments, District Attorney Michael Graveley described Tate as a cold-hearted killer who cared about no one but himself.

The victim was described by her parents as a hard-working teen who excelled in school and had been saving money to visit China.

Graveley said Mackay's trusting and accepting nature got her into trouble. "She was a teenager with a capacity to live not just her own interior life but to care about others and to care about other places, other cultures," Graveley told the judge. "But she was lonely. And because she was young she also had those moments where she thought she was immortal."

Next month the man who stood by during the killing and did nothing other than help Tate dispose of the body will be sentenced.
