(WGTD)---An interfaith coalition in Kenosha that was formed to push for social and environmental justice is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
Congregations United to Serve Humanity will be holding a dinner Oct. 23rd to mark the milestone.
Speaking on WGTD’s Morning Show, CUSH Executive Director Grant Pitts explained that CUSH is a conduit for individuals to exercise their power as citizens. "We want to empower as many people as possible to exercise (their power) as long as they are doing that for the common interest," he said.
CUSH has several task forces that focus on various issues, including the environment, immigration and mental health. The coalition is nonpartisan.
CUSH President Karen Kempinen says the group operates in a very intentional and strategic manner. "We agree on our talking points and we are very careful to make sure the messaging brings together the values of many people in the community," she said.
CUSH is supported by a synagogue and nine churches.
The Oct. 23rd dinner will be held at The Vault in downtown Kenosha. Tickets are available here.
