(WGTD)---A criminal case that stunned the Kenosha community is over.
In July of 2019, a Kenosha couple lost their baby in what was believed to be either a co-sleeping or SIDS death. Instead of calling for help, the couple, who'd been living in the basement of a relative's home, placed the body in a bag and went to a wooded lot. That's where the father, 37-year-old Hezile Frison, left it. Concerned over the baby's disappearance, Frison's sister went to police. Officers searched the lot, but only found the empty bag, which appeared to have been clawed open by animals.
In court Wednesday, Judge Jason Rossell sentenced Frison to two-and-a-half years, explaining that the prison time was for the concerted cover-up--not the death.
At the time, Frison had been on the run for a probation violation.
Before sentencing, Frison spoke for nearly ten minutes, appearing distraught as he searched for words to explain himself. "I can't explain..I don't know...too much was going on in my head," Frison said. "It hurts a lot that I lost her."
After acknowledging Frison's poor upbringing, Judge Rossell noted Frison's chronic inability to make the right decisions. "When given the opportunity of making the wrong choice or the right choice, you're still making the wrong choice. And I'm not sure why," Rossell said.
The mother of the baby, 23-year-old Monica Adams, was sentenced earlier this fall to time served and probation.
